Description
Guava is native to South and Central America, probably Peru. The Spaniards found it in Peru and Colombia and spread it throughout almost the entire tropical zone. Guava is now cultivated in tropical and some subtropical regions of Asia, Africa, South and North America.
Archaeological excavations carried out in Peru have shown that local residents grew guava several thousand years ago. In the distant past, the aroma of the guava tree made the Spaniards think that they were in an earthly paradise. Since then, historians, travelers and scientists have been trying to describe and replicate this wonderful smell. Guava has a smooth surface, round or pear-shaped and small in size. When ripe, the fruit turns yellow. It has a bitter-sweet taste.
